Riley meet Drew, Drew meet Riley

After 24 hrs they finally gave Drew a clean bill of health and sent him home.  I admit that I was quite nervous about how Riley would react to Drew, but so far everything as gone very smooth.  Riley greeted Drew with curiosity, making sure that he has two ears, a nose, and mouth.  After the initial check, she planted a nice big kiss on her baby brother.  Of course, she was wearing her "Big Sister" shirt.  Christopher did stop by for 5 minutes to check him out, but he was gone before I could jump up and grab a camera... maybe next time.

Poll Results

I have good news for Bob and the 3 others that voted for the "Dark w/ Red Stripe"... you've won!  The resemblance to his big brother (above right) is uncanny!

Please stop by the corner mart across from the gas station and just down from the lumber yard between 2-3am to collect your prize!

Next Morning

Drew did great last night. In fact, maybe too great! He was so tired from doing all the work yesterday that he is sleeping more than eating. Mommy has already been cleared to go home, but Drew wont find out until 5 pm (24 hrs after delivery) if he is cleared or not. Also, apparently his pee pee is too big and we must have it trimmed back before we leave.

Mr. Drew

Well, Drew got one thing from me that we were not hoping for... my big head!  After a few hours of pushing, Drew finally arrived at 4:53pm.  He weighed exactly 8lbs even and is 20 inches long.  Mommy had a rough go, but is doing great now.  As I type this he is getting his first feeding from mommy.

We are close to 10

We are close to 10 cm. The nurse said that there is still an anterior lip, whatever that means.

Epidural is in and her

Epidural is in and her water has been broken. Dialation is at 3 cm. We still have a few hours to go.

Well, last night sucked

Imagine placing an air mattress in the middle of an ER and behind the next curtain is a lady being tortured to death... this lasted until 2am.  I'm just glad that Erin's Ambien lasted until closer to 3am as she missed the blood curdling screams.

Contractions are now pretty severe and running around 2 minutes apart.  They just started the pitocin and Dr. Zeller should be here any second to break the water.

All Packed

OK, we're all packed and moments away from leaving for the hospital.

We think Riley may know what's about to happen as she was up several times during the night upset.  I got up with her 3 times, finally all the crying and awake time gave Drew an appetite, so Erin took the kids downstairs for some 2am cereal!  This will be interesting to see how she handles seeing her mommy with another baby.

We're taking Riley with us to check into the hospital today.  Say a prayer for us, please!  Erin's folks will be in around 7pm (if all goes well with traffic) to help with Riley.  In the meantime, we get to entertain her for a few hours in the hospital.  Maybe I can talk one of the nurses into slipping me a little something to take the edge off later... ;)

Riley doing her part

Here is a video that I captured of Riley doing her part to help move Drew along!

Side by Side Comparison

What's that?  You're interested in seeing a side-by-side comparison with Riley's pregnancy?  Me too.  Both of these pics are at the same time in both pregnancies (39th week).  The long sleeve shot is from the cool end of October (Riley) and the short sleeve shot is from a ridiculously hot week in June (Drew).

The Date Has Been Set... Maybe

We went to Erin's apt this morning expecting to schedule an induction appointment soon after her due date.  Instead, the news we received had both of our jaws laying on the floor!  If Drew doesn't come earlier, we have an induction appointment scheduled for Tuesday the 29th!  Erin will check in the hospital the night before on Monday the 28th.

I think it was a couple of things that led to the early appointment.  1) Erin has been having some pretty intense contractions for the past several nights.  2) The baby has "dropped", although I still don't really know what it means.  3) Erin is now dilating.

I suspect that I will be a very busy bee this evening when Erin gets home (as well as the next several evenings).  My "Get Ready for Drew" list seems to be still growing.

Father's Day Weekend

First, the important stuff... no baby this weekend.  Drew was a good boy and let his Daddy keep his birthday all to himself.  Erin is now 12 days away and counting.  Her spirits are as high as can be expected.  Here is a pic from about a week ago.

For Father's Day we just hung out around the pool all day.  Erin and Riley sipped freshly made lemonade, while I enjoyed a brown ale from my first batch of homebrew.  We did filets and potatoes on the grill, then later on we had some yummy cake that Erin and Riley made for me.  Christopher made at least two appearance during the evening... once for the steaks, then again for the cake and ice cream.  Teenagers.  Argh.

During the weekend Riley also learned how to pull down her diaper to get ready for the potty.  I caught some candid shots as she ran past me screaming.

Erin taped down 9 pieces of paper to the floor and gave Riley some washable markers and stickers... Picaso, lookout!

To cap the night off, Erin decided to bath Riley in kitchen sink.  Before anyone sends me any nasty emails let me tell you that I have taken over bathing duties for the past 2 months.  Apparently, Drew doesn't quite fit over the tub wall. ;)  Needless to say, Riley had a great time!
